Modified Car
For almost as long as cars have existed people have been modifying them, some of the earliest mods involved new paint on Model T’s that only came in black, but they weren’t the first, old Daimler Benz autos from the late 19th century often had seat trim changed. In the 21st century nothing has changed, a car isn’t just a car to some drivers, it’s a statement, like wearing unique jewelry or designer sunglasses.
We take a look at some of the best modified cars, forget just tuning the perfect engine, we like to see mods that change an auto and make it better or different from factory stock. Visually a lot of mods are invisible, but we still want to know about them. New seats, pumping sound systems, leather or wood door trim, race spec steering wheels, all have their place on a site about modified cars.
We all know how good feels to take on a street racer in a car with modded engine and stock body kit, these guys just don’t expect anything to beat them. Urban legends about VW Beetles getting Porsche engines retrofitted always make us smile, but mundane vehicles like Chrysler Voyager or Pontiac Vibe are just as capable of serious mods and shouldn’t be ignored just because they look plain.
The ultimate car modification guide is what we aim to create right here, here’s the plan. Take any car, seriously, any car, and we can guarantee you’ll get at least 20% more out of it from tuning and modding, and in some case a lot more. Car manufacturers just don’t optimize their vehicles, mostly they’re designed for comfortable family transport.
Modified cars always start somewhere, maybe the previous owner has already done something, maybe factory mods were built in, either way there is going to be something that has been tuned or modded, and a lot that hasn’t. Start by giving the car a thorough inspection, where are the weakest points, where is the car underperforming. Can they be fixed or swapped out, and if so, what difference is it going to make.
Or, are the mods you want to achieve so radical that everything needs to be thrown out and new components fitted. It’s a huge job, but we think worth it in the long run; new suspension, new air hoses, new cooling system and fans, new exhaust, new shocks, uprated brakes, and that’s just the stuff everyone does.
Any auto becomes a seriously modified car just by playing with the engine and handling, but step back take a look at the car. What about new panels, skirts, lights, spoilers, canards, wheels and tires. the sky is the limit. Just check out some of the body kit mods that happen in Japan with sharply raked front spoilers that protrude as much as two meters in front of the car. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, we agree, who are we to say the modified car you own isn’t legit.
At ModifiedCar.org we share your passion for autos, we understand your need to drive the perfect car, and totally get that everyone is different.
